| Demand Response has a positive effect in Ontario |
|
In last month’s newsletter, we looked at the possibilities that Demand Response programs have for tackling the problem of increased energy demand on an aging generating capacity. Results released this month suggest that these ‘DR’ programs really do have an impact in tackling this problem head on and offer a positive solution. The graph below quite clearly demonstrates a flattening of demand on energy during the peak period between 1 and 4 pm.
While energy use needs to be reduced further, the success of the current DR programs means that demand for energy during peak periods is less than previously. Reduced strain on the grid benefits all of Ontario since it lessens the risk of brownouts and blackouts that have a negative effect on Ontario’s businesses. Those companies employing Demand Response strategies will also be directly benefiting from the financial incentives that are offered to businesses that effectively reduce energy consumption during peak periods. Demand Response certainly forms part of a strategy aimed at moving towards a sustainable future for Ontario. |
