March 20, 2007 Peak Energy demand in the Toronto area expected to be significantly reduced by 2010 Burlington, ON – The Building Owners and Manager's Association of Toronto (BOMA) has hired Energy Advantage, Inc. to provide Project Evaluation services for its newly launched 150 MW electrical demand reduction program for Toronto’s commercial buildings. BOMA made the decision on the basis of Energy Advantage's long experience in energy management for commercial buildings, and expertise in administering measurement and verification protocols for energy retrofits. The Project Evaluator plays a critical role in assuring Ontario ratepayers are getting measurable and verifiable results from the Program. "We are very pleased to be chosen by BOMA as we share their belief that this is a tremendous initiative," said Energy Advantage President Rob Kirkby. "It helps customers justify spending money on projects that can not only reduce their own energy costs, but also help the environment, support the long-term economic sustainability of Toronto and keep Toronto as a forerunner for progressive green values. We look forward to helping our customers capitalize on this program in order to achieve the best results possible for all parties involved." The new program offers $400 per kW of on-peak demand reduction, or $.05 per kWh of annual energy savings resulting from the installation of eligible projects. (Incentives are capped at 40% of the total project cost.) Eligibility is restricted to existing commercial construction within the boundaries of the City of Toronto. BOMA members and non-members may apply. "By conserving electricity, our members can reduce their operating costs while also supporting the overall economic viability of Toronto," said BOMA executive vice president Chuck Stradling. "We recognize that Energy Advantage has a strong history of delivering energy-efficiency projects and we look forward to working with them in delivering this program." The Ontario Power Authority provides the funding for the Program: $75 million has been earmarked over the next three years to achieve the 150MW target.
